Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness — Quota Entry Permits — January Quota Release

The once-a-year release of every Boundary Waters entry-point quota permit, first come, first served at 9:00 a.m. CT on the last Wednesday in January.

What we found

The Superior National Forest's own BWCAW permit page says a quota permit is required from May 1 to September 30 for any overnight trip (paddle, motor or hiking) or motorized day trip, that the quota limits how many groups enter at each entry point each day, and that all quota permits for all entry points are released on Recreation.gov at 9:00 a.m. Central on the last Wednesday in January. It does not publish the calendar date of the next release. We alert when the release opens.
