Natural Features
The area around Six Mile Campground is defined by the remarkably clear, jade-green swimming pools and dramatic rocky shorelines of the Wild and Scenic Illinois River. Nestled in the rugged Siskiyou Mountains, the landscape features unique serpentine soils and forested ridges of Jeffrey pine and Douglas fir. This deep river canyon offers stunning vistas, riverside boulders for sunbathing, and is a prime corridor for spotting bald eagles and river otters near the Six Mile Day Use Recreation Area.

Six Mile Campground serves as a central hub for several outdoor attractions along the Wild and Scenic Illinois River. Immediately adjacent is the Six Mile Day Use Area, which is highly popular for its deep, emerald-green swimming holes, rock jumping ledges, and riverside picnic pavilions. A short distance away, you can visit the historic Swinging Bridge, a wooden suspension bridge providing 60-foot-high views over a rocky river ravine and access to secluded swimming and scuba spots. For those interested in more active pursuits, the Illinois River Trail begins nearby, offering rugged backpacking routes through the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. Further back toward Selma, you can explore the diverse plant life at the Eight Dollar Mountain Botanical Area or enjoy boating and fishing at Lake Selmac.

Getting there
From Selma, OR, off of Highway 199 is the turn for the Illinois River Road (Forest Road 4301). Take that road approximately 6 miles to the campsites. Just before the Six Mile Day Use Area you will take the spur road to the right to the parking area for the campsites
Fees and stay limits
Overnight Camping: $10 per site per night; Additional Vehicle Fee: $5 per vehicle per day NOTE: 50% discount for Interagency Senior and Access Pass holders on a single campsite. This discount does not apply to extra vehicle fees.
