Mount Morris Dam Tours

The US Army Corps of Engineers built the Mount Morris Dam in the late 1940s to reduce flooding on the lower Genesee River. Today, the dam continues to provide flood protection along 67 miles of the Genesee River Valley from the village of Mount Morris to downtown Rochester where the river enters Lake Ontario. Top of the Dam Guided Walks are offered daily spring through fall. Still an active, working dam, a limited number of visitors can participate in a Top of the Dam Guided Walk to learn more about this engineering marvel. This guided walk is ideal for active visitors with an interest in engineering and the Genesee River Valley. Pre-arrival reservations are strongly recommended and can be booked up to 7 days in advance and up to 8am ET on the morning of the Guided Walk. Booking Window(s)

Mount Morris Dam and Recreation Area is located in Mount Morris, New York. From the North: (Interstate 90) take 390-South to exit 7 - Mount Morris/Letchworth, turn left and proceed south on Route 408 approximately 3 miles. In the Village of Mount Morris, turn left onto Main St., and then right at the next block onto Chapel St/408S. Follow Chapel St/408S for about 2 miles. Turn right onto Visitor Center Rd and follow to the end. From the South: (Route 17, I-86) take 390-North to exit 6 - Sonyea, turn left and proceed north on Route 36 approximately 7 miles. In the village of Mount Morris, turn left onto Chapel St/408S. Follow Chapel St/408S for about 2 miles. Turn right onto Visitor Center Rd and follow to the end. Note: Do not rely exclusively on GPS or similar automated navigation to get to the Mount Morris Dam Visitor Center in time for your guided walk. Routes can be misleading or incorrect.
